You may be finding yourself staring at the showerhead every morning and wanting more from life if you find yourself in the shower. You may need to refresh your showerhead. Maybe it’s not producing the water pressure you desire, or it’s just too old. Whatever the reason, the morning shower sets the tone for your entire day. Do something before you go to the next unsatisfying shower. Installing or replacing a showerhead can be done easily.
This simple guide will help you swap yours for one with the right look and feel.
Fixed showerheads can be mounted on either a ceiling or wall mount. Both designs can be installed using the same tools once the hole is drilled.
What you’ll need
These are the basic tools that you will need to do the job right:
Groove-joint pliers
An adjustable wrench
Rags
Your replacement showerhead
Shower arm
An old toothbrush
Tape that seals thread
Steps to Install Wall- or Arm-Mounted Items
Turn off the water
Although your shower might have a cutoff at the local level, it is better to shut off the main water switch in your home. The main water switches are usually located in the vicinity of your hot-water heater, either in your basement or garage.
Clean the shower arm
You can use a toothbrush, which you can toss away after you’re done.
Install the Shower Arm
Wrap the shower arm with thread-sealing tape, and then screw it into the pipe opening on the ceiling or wall where your showerhead is.
Get ready for the shower arm
Attach the backing to the shower arm, and then wrap the exposed end with thread-sealing taping. To avoid unravelling the tape when attaching your showerhead, always apply the tape clockwise.
Install your Showerhead
Once the showerhead is snug, screw it on by hand. Wrap the arm and head with rags and tighten it further using the adjustable wrench.
Showerhead installation with embedded showerhead
It’s a good idea to hire a professional to install a embedded showerhead. This means that the showerhead is flush to the ceiling. This showerhead type may require you to open your ceiling and reroute some pipes.
Fixed Wall Showerhead Installation
A ladder may be required to remove a ceiling-mounted head. If this is the case, ensure that someone is available to help you hold the ladder steady.
What you’ll need
Groove- joint pliers
A adjustable wrench
Rags
Your replacement showerhead
Tape that seals thread
A screwdriver
The Old Showerhead Must Be Removed
Turn off the water. Turn off your water at the main switch. This switch is usually located in the basement or garage near your hot water heater.
Remove your showerhead. Use your screwdriver and place your groove-joints pliers on your shower arm to loosen your showerhead. If you intend to reuse them, cover the arm or head with rags.
Change the showerhead
Prepare the shower arm. Attach the new backing to the shower arm. Wrap the exposed end with thread-seal tape. To avoid the tape from becoming unwrapped when attaching your new showerhead, always apply it in a clockwise direction.
Install the new showerhead. Attach the new showerhead to your bathroom by using your hands until it is snug. Use the adjustable wrench to tighten down the head.
